We turned 7
As usual, we kicked off the celebrating with a tea party. The folk at Chocolate Moose were tasked with baking something quintessentially Yuppiechef and did superbly. At 11 o’clock sharp we gathered in the test kitchen and ooh-ed and aah-ed over the fancy creation they delivered. Then we ate it. The tiny, sugar fried eggs vanished too.
If you happened to order kitchen tools towards the end of last week, perhaps you’re one of the lucky ones to find a pair of fridge monkeys hiding in your order? We like to make our birthday circle bigger. Thanks for supporting us along on our pink brick road, friends.
As evening rolled around, we braved the blustery elements and packed snugly into the The Brasserie. We love to click our heels to a year gone by and donned square toed boots, cowboy hats and all the checkered things to celebrate with a touch of Wild West.
There was much clinking of beer glasses and tipping of hats as we enjoyed excellent food, the most jovial of company and the process of perfecting pouts in a flashing photo booth.
After chatting and tapas, Andrew talked us through a gallant ride down memory lane, reminiscing what the world was like 7 years ago. Petrol still cost R5.26 to the liter, iPhones were still a blink in Apple’s eye and the hallmark of an online guru was a myspace profile with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest yet to be created.
It’s been another good year for Yuppiechef, with the winds of change blowing and shelving popping up left, right, centre and to the roof at HQ to stock even more of the world’s best for kitchen and home. We added food items to our ranges, grew to a team of sixty, started shipping across the border and made friends with a whole bunch of cats.
We also perfected the fire drill, ate quince for breakfast, waved at our new Aramex delivery van and fought over the delicious leftovers from test kitchen shoots.
We’ve come a long way in 365 days and it’s becoming an increasingly logistical challenge to fit our whole team into the frame of one photo. We will not be beaten.
Where will be on our 8th birthday? Not Mars just yet. But we’ll be smiling and as excited as ever about the bright future.
