The tale of the pink monkeys

We did some knitting and biscuit icing for Mandela Day last month and the very next morning got these splendid thank you cards from some marvelous kids, which is where the story of our pink monkeys begins.

On receiving the cards we had the idea of immortalising the memory of our 67 minutes by bringing 5 year old Ashton’s monkey to life…We phoned a friend who’s great with needles and wool and a few weeks later this trio of grinning chimps arrived at Yuppiechef HQ.

Aren’t they neat? One will stay with us at HQ, one is going Ashton and the third to Michelle Edwards (@MichChelle, who was in the right place at the right time). Our monkey attended the Yuppiechef sixth birthday dinner at Five Flies on Friday night and so began the arduous process of naming.

Suggestions streamed in like clowns to candy floss and we narrowed it down to:

Mumford
Frij (as in Fridge Monkey)
Marcel
Mash (Ash for Ashton)
Madeleine
Bonzo
Bake (as in Bake the monkey)
Edmund
Mfor (M for monkey)
Ashmonk

The debate culminated in a vote at Paul’s birthday tea this morning and we are pleased to introduce our new monkey… Mash! Mash spent his first weekend out and about and has already made some really nice friends. What a monkey.

Mash’s siblings are on their way to their new families and we look forward to hearing what they get named and how they fare. Go well, woolly friends.
