A winter warmer breakfast

June’s staff breakfast landed slap bang in the middle of more murky winter weather. And that just after we celebrated hurdling over the winter solstice. So, instead of brewing over the storm in our teacup, our month end breakfast celebrated the whimsy of winter warming. Splish splash, we’re taking you back.

Breakfast-team-July

Winter’s not all bad. You could parade around in the rain with a bright brollie. Or what about strolling through mud-puddled fields of green in wellies? Either way, this breakfast saw us wrapped in toasty layers enjoying food fit for hibernation.

July’s team were given the following inspirational elements to tie into their theme. Their word to use was ‘busy’ and the kitchen tool to use was a potato chipper. On the seasonal food front, they were dealt the papaya card and the unusual ingredient was squid ink (ooh, a toughie). So they thought, ‘Hmm, a really sharp knife can chip potatoes, so let’s use that to chip the papaya into squared lengths.’ The papaya was also drizzled with yoghurt and Honeyguide Honey, which is made by busy bees, don’t you know. The clever rascals.

As for the squid ink? Anyone fancy some slightly sea flavoured bread sticks? Actually rather tasty, not to mention pretty out there pretending to eat charcoal sticks.

Winter rice pudding

The rest of their breakfast spread included cheese platters, delicious cinnamon flavoured sticky rice pudding and even some homemade hot chocolate. We were winter warm, alright.

Their texture, crinkle, came into play on the scrunched up brown paper runners. Very rustic, yes? And the colour, metallic? Well, we think the sequined bows say it all, don’t you? Steve looked especially dashing sporting the new fashionable forehead bow. What did they put in that hot chocolate?

And with that, another super successful breakfast tinkered on by, now happily tucked into our exploding-at-the-seams memory bank. Thank you James, Sam, Andrea, Sigrid, Ali and Steve for a very cozy breakfast.

Up, up and away we go. Because it’s the only way to go.
