Mzanzi Festive Cake Entries 2011

We’ve just announced the winners of the 2011 Festive Cake Icing Challenge but couldn’t have wrapped it up without a shout out to all the special people who took to their kitchens and baked up a storm. And of course, sharing some of their photos with you.

Enjoy pouring over these festive creations (and find out who won).

Hester and Deon went for a festive baobab with white chocolate shavings, Michelle Skarda captured the magic of a South African Santa sunset and Biance Vieira popped a sneaky lion on a fruit cake cracker cake.

Angel Conradie, winner of the 2010 Cupcake Icing competition impressed us no end with her plastic icing skills in creating this delightfully chilled and cool by the pool Santa.

Lisa Forsythe had us chuckling with her chaotic Kruger animal present opening fiasco (the spotty giraffe is the business) and we loved the detailed sugarwork in Angela Lightbody’s Mzanzi nativity and Sam Lynch’s priceless Cape Town beach scene (there were even tiny plastic icing Cable Car tickets!).

Mia Roets picked up on the beauty of the Christmas aftermath (watermelon and melted ice cream) while Trishana Jeram and team cake bakers Jacqui Kaufmann and Emma Fergus created beautiful festive Christmas trees (the chocolate tree cake was given as a gift to a local old age home, which gets a thumbs up from all of us).

Yvonne Tippins took the big five for a festive swim on the top of her cake, while Lize van den Heever put Santa on an elephant (an exciting but possibly lengthy way to deliver presents). Sarah Dhooma’s penguin and snowman cake shows just how much can get done when people work together, something we firmly believe in.

Also pictured above are Audrey Loney and Jess Franks’s cakes. Audrey put Christmas right inside her cake with a red velvet and cream cheese recipe, topping it off with a penguin tanning party while Jess got impressively creative and crafted a Weber from Santa’s pants!

Zozette wowed us with a beautiful pool cake: the reflective blue icing and cheeky penguins made us smile. Nice one, Zozette. We also like the ideas behind Yolanda Saaiman, Michelle Phillips and Gail Schultz’s cake pictured below well done ladies.

Marlene Manson and Scott’s GingerManson house was a magical sight to behold (we envied those little gingerbread men something chronic).

And finally, Mandy Nel’s clever cake to celebrate the sardines! Sardine and cake are not two things that go easily in the same sentence, but this is totally delightful. Well done, Mandy.

Two bloggers even wrote about their cake making experiences, read some thoughts from Se7en&1 and get Tami’s microwave fruit cake recipe.

Again, a big well done to everyone who entered. You impress to infinity and beyond.
