Lékué Ovo Cylindrical Silicone Microwave Egg Poacher

Next time the craving strikes for an eggy meal, reach for the Lékué Ovo Microwave Egg Poacher. Strong silicone helps to allow even heat distribution, so your microwave does most of the work for you. Also handy for when a large pot, some vinegar and a slotted spoon are far away.

How it works - Lékué Ovo Cylindrical Silicone Microwave Egg Poacher

How it works:

1. Remove the lid of the Ovo and check that the ventilation hole is punched all the way through. Clear it out with a pin, if necessary, to avoid egg explosions. Nobody likes those. Wash and dry before the first use and spray with cooking spray or wipe a drop of oil on the inside to activate the non-stick silicone.

2. Break an egg into the belly of the Ovo and add seasoning. You can also add a few toppings if you like, before or after the egg. Just be aware that whatever you add may slow the cooking process slightly.

3. Pop the lid back on and place into the microwave. For a soft centre, cook on the outside edge of the plate; placing it in the middle of the microwave plate will result in a solid yolk. Cook in bursts of 20 seconds, checking between bursts, to ensure it doesn’t overcook – every microwave is different. Note that long cooking times can result in the egg exploding messily, so keep an eye on it. It shouldn’t take longer than about a minute, in three 20 second bursts.

4. When your egg is cooked, slide it out onto a plate and serve as you please.

Don’t have a microwave? The Ovo can also be floated in hot water, like a little boat. Just bring the water to the boil and lower to a simmer. Slide the egg-filled Ovo into the water and let it cook for a minute or so before checking. Cook to desired consistency and serve.
