Applegrass Juice

If you’ve been to local health joint, Kauai, you may have noticed bordering on luminous grass growing in boxes and mysterious green liquid being slugged back by bleary eyed people. Yes? Wheatgrass is an incredibly nutritious super food, excellent source of Chlorophyll and is rich in vitamin E. It’s also a great detox. People love it. We like it best with apples and ginger.

If you are into juicing, wheatgrass is a great thing to have on standby in your kitchen and can be ordered in trays from health stores (and also from Kauai). You can also buy a home growing kit (here’s one for R150 available at Wellness Warehouse).

Straight up, wheatgrass is not the tastiest but with some pressed apples and a bit of ginger it becomes rather delicious. The healthiest shot you’ll ever have? Quite possibly.

Ingredients (serves 2):
2 apples, washed and quartered
1 knob of ginger, peeled
1 bunch of wheat grass, roughly chopped

Tools needed:
Juicer (Oscar DA900 featured)
Fruit peeler (Eva Solo Fruit Peeler featured)

Method:
1. Place all ingredients into juicer and juice.
2. Pour into shot glasses and serve immediately.

Delicious. Very nutritious. And kind of good looking, for a juice. Download print-friendly recipe.
