Excellent product. Looks & works great especially if you're keen on sous vide cooking.

Contrary to the box instructions, this sealer works fine with vacuum bags from other brands as long as they are textured (non-textured bags create too much of a seal for the suction to work).

I recommend getting the Taurus rolls on Yuppiechef. They are cheaper than the Severin 50-pack, and will last a lot longer. Read more

Good machine but takes longer than you would expect to vacuum and seal automatically. The top of the bag where it seals needs to be dry or the machine can't seal so I fold down the top of the bag twice before adding anything to it. Also don't allow any liquids to run up too high when vacuuming (if you press the seal button while running the automatic setting it will immediately seal and stop liquids running up too high). Bags are a bit expensive as you have to use the textured type but it has made my life so much easier in that I can prepare marinated meats and freezer meals for later use. Read more

I was on the lookout for a vacuum sealer and selected this on brand name alone, having owned a Severin stick blender and have come to appreciate the ergonomics of Severin's design.

The one criticism is the lack of detail in the user manual in terms of how to use a Vacuum Sealer which necessitated a visit to Youtube to figure it out.

Being a Severin, this would be one of the better vacuum sealer brands on the market and appreciate that this is made available in South Africa. Read more

Stopped vacuuming before sealing so it traps the air in bag — which defeats the purpose.

This product is really good but it seems to only work with the supplied sealing bags. This is massively restrictive to its usefulness and is such a pity.

I would not recommend this product at all, mainly because of the cost of the vacuum bags. R599 for 50 bags. It works out to be R11.98 per bag whereas other vacuum bags are less than R2 a bag.
This Vacuum Sealer will not work with any normal vacuum bag, you will only be able to use Severin bags which are highly costly!
I have corresponded with Yuppiechef about this matter and I am very disappointed that I could not exchange for another vacuum sealer product here I could buy vacuum bags locally as I need to have bags couriered to me with more expense on top of the 11.98 per bag! Wish I knew this before I bought this product! How disappointing..... Read more

Rather buy one that can use non embossed sous vide bags

The first one we got sadly did not close properly and so we had to get it replaced. With the second one we discovered it only takes the embossed sous vide bags. This make the unit cost prohibitive if you want to make daily use of the sous vide machine. I would recommend you research your choices. However, saying that, it works wonderfully with the bags supplied which are quite pricey.
