This Slab of Seed will grow you 3 delicious heirloom spicy salad green varieties:

  • Japanese Mizuna is sharp, spicy, and bright, and is a cook's dream. It holds a distinct flavour profile and is one of the most interesting greens around. Mizuna is a staple vegetable in many Asian countries. Also known as Japanese mustard, shui cai (or water greens), California peppergrass, and many other names. A cross between arugula and mustard, mizuna also has a mild peppery taste. They have feathery serrated edges and a glossy surface that makes the green wonderfully decorative. Thanks to its lush green colour and the chlorophyll that comes with it, Mizuna is rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as beta-carotene. It's a Kyo yasai, which means it's an heirloom vegetable from the Kyoto region.
    • Tasting note: Mustard bite
  • Pepper Cress Lepidium bonariense, is a peppery green also known as garden cress or peppergrass. Technically, it's classified as a herb, and it's similar in flavour to watercress, both of which are members of the mustard family. Its origins trace back to Iran. Oftentimes you'll see it subbed in for watercress, though pepper cress has a much more assertive flavour than watercress. They keep for quite a while when you store them in the water with the stems down. Brightly flavoured with a bit of kick, pepper cress is also an excellent source of vitamins A, C, iron, and potassium
    • Tasting note: Peppery & bright
  • Red Streaked Rocket is a gorgeous Arugula! This pungent, flavourful wild variety has oak-leaf-shaped, serrated leaves, traced with striking maroon. The pretty flowers and seed pods are also edible. It looks and tastes wonderful in summer salads, and is a wonderful addition to ornamental beds and containers, too. A must for pesto, pasta and great pizza! This leafy green vegetable is native to the Mediterranean region and southern Europe.
    • Tasting note: Spicy & nutty

About Sow Delicious

In 2013, Vanessa Jacobs set out to find the simplest way to grow a garden fit for a foodie, giving people the opportunity to proudly plant a garden that is Sow Delicious! She came up with the idea for the ‘Slab of Seed’ which might look like a slab of chocolate, but is made from a special blend of organically enriched super-soil and infused with rare heirloom seed – the purest & oldest seed on earth which is also non-GMO. The slabs are handmade in a unique little chocolate factory in the heart of Eden in The Garden Route.
