Welcome to the world of Mervyn Gers, where each tableware item is individually handmade in their Cape Town studio using their own clay, designs and glazes. Clay is mixed with finely milled ceramic, to create a rougher texture, which is then shaped and fired at up to 1220°C to create strong, long-lasting stoneware. These uniquely shaped, versatile bowls have a beautifully organic look and can be used for breakfast dishes, small salads, soups and pastas.

About Mervyn Gers

Mervyn Gers makes functional and decorative handmade ceramics that bring a natural, textured touch to any table. Every item is handcrafted using either a wheel-throwing or a mould-shaping technique, glazed by hand-dipping them in one of Mervyn Gers' bespoke glazes. Absolutely exquisite. Love the unique shape and colours of each of these handmade bowls.

The food looks so beautiful in them and despite some of the reviews I definitely did not find them too heavy, they just feel solid and well made.

I love these and use them for everything. They are beautiful and the quality is excellent. They appear fairly small but hold more than you expect. My dining table has definitely been upgraded.

Each item is unique in colour and shape, which I love! Good quality and each plate is balanced perfectly on a flat surface. Mix & match various colours, they look stunning together!

I ordered two sets of these bowls as I needed 8 bowls. One set was fine, the other had cracks along the side. Yuppiechef did replace the set with the cracks but the replacement bowls still have severely discoloured blotches on the inside.

Thanks so much for sending us your feedback, we really appreciate that you took the time to do this. We're so sorry for your disappointing experience with these bowls.

Unfortunately, because the products are handmade from start to finish, clay, slab rolling, production, fettling, bisque, glazing and finally printing and transfers before dispatching them. These imperfections will vary, some more obvious than others (cracks are not a part of this of course). This gives the bowls a perfect, rustic yet modern look.
