Brilliant Kettle
Item reviewed: Stainless Steel
Review by Nirvana J. on 21 July 2019, over 1 year after purchase
Firstly I'd like to say that Le Creuset does honor their warranty. My original kettle in cherry started to peel on the inside (I used it with an induction cooker) within the warranty period and they offered to replace it. I decided to take this stainless steel version and pay in the difference. It is completely stainless steel and isn't coated like my previous one (which means that peeling will not be an issue again). It is a bit heavier than the usual enamel ones. I've had it for two years now and it's still going strong. I use it on induction and gas without issues. Really happy with this kettle! Read more

Just what I wanted

Review by Lizette B. on 22 May 2014, 10 days after purchase
Love our new whistling kettle. Almost settled for something else but changed my mind the last minute and don't regret paying extra for what I really wanted.
Positive:
Sturdy, well made, pours very well, whistle starts faint and gets louder the longer it is left on the stove.
Negative:
The black nickle does show dried water droplets and the handle moves if not fastened well when assembled - so be sure to tighten the screws well.

Coating breaks down after guarantee is up.
Item reviewed: Caribbean Blue
Review by Cameron W. on 1 June 2019
We bought one of these kettles a little over 5 years ago. There is a reason that the guarantee on them is 5 years. The coating on the inside of ours has started breaking down and peeling off. I would expect more from something advertised as a quality product.

Unplug your electric kettle for this sweet kettle
Item reviewed: Caribbean Blue
Review by Kate C. on 10 January 2013
Our electric kettle packed up and, as we are trying to save on electricity, my husband bought me one of these for Christmas.
A good size, looks very pretty and at home on my gas stove. I've noticed the whistle is louder the longer you leave it on the gas (obviously!) and if I use a larger gas ring. The Caribbean blue has the trademark Le Creuset ombre effect and the handle never gets too hot to handle!
Worth the money, a very good quality product. Read more

We have used this kettle daily since we purchased it in May 2019. It has rusted on the bottom on the inside. It has not been left with water in it so there is no reason for it to rust in such a short time.

Review by MARIA H. on 3 March 2022
This is a sturdy and very good-looking kettle, with a lovely whistle when the water comes to a boil. But, I am not happy with the way this kettle looks inside, I'm not even sure if I should be using it.
The enamel inside has 'pock marks' and the cast iron shows through, this is my second kettle (exactly the same) and both have had this flaw. My kettle is four years old and is seldom used. Read more

Review by Kerry L. on 11 August 2014, 18 days after purchase
The kettle looks too gorgeous for words. It boils very quickly on the double ring burner, and the whistle is extremely vigorous! I can hear it from the bottom of the garden. Sometimes the spout drips a bit when I'm pouring, which is my reason for giving this product 4 stars. Overall, I'm thrilled with my purchase.

Review by Andrew W. on 20 August 2014, 1 month after purchase
The idea of ridding my kitchen of an electric kettle appealed to me now we have gas, and this kettle is near perfect. The colour, wow, that yellow, so bright and cheery, the construction is great quality and the sound from the whistle when the kettle is boiled is as old school as you can get. Takes no longer than 3 minutes to boil a full kettle.
My only concern is it drips from the base when pouring, like so many spouted products do. I am not sure if it is me making a mistake but all I'm doing is pouring, slow - fast it makes no difference.
Still that is a minor gripe, I love the kettle! Read more

Item reviewed: Cerise
Review by Marcia O. on 15 December 2014, 18 days after purchase
Makes boiling water and making tea "better". Switching on an electric kettle is boring, firing up your gas stove and waiting to hear your kettle whistle is the way forward! It only takes marginally longer than an electric kettle to boil and you save on electricity. I love mine!

I am loving my Le Creuset kettle, in lovely soleil yellow!
It doesn't take too long to boil, and the whistling sound is clear so you know exactly when its ready. It's the right amount of water for a few cups of tea. It's very attractive, so I store/display it on a shelf in my kitchen. Makes load shedding less annoying, as I can still make a cup of tea on my gas stove with this genius little kettle! Read more

Review by Karlien V. on 18 February 2015, 11 days after purchase
I've always wanted a Le Crueset Whistling kettle because they're just so... pretty. Of course you'd expect top quality to go with that extraordinary finish and, despite my limited knowledge of stovetop kettles, the quality really does seem to be there. It's incredibly sturdy, the heat induction is great and the water boils just fine. My only critique is that the whistle doesn't really live up to the whole experience. It's rather weak and sputtery, unlike the robust tweeet we used to get from our cheapie tin whistling kettle. The point, though, is that I now have a wonderful kettle that looks great and boils water awesomely. Read more

Great gas-stove kettle
Item reviewed: Marseille Blue (no longer available)
Review by Dylan M. on 20 February 2015, 10 days after purchase
This is one our load shedding purchases - we have a gas hob but when Eskom drops the ball, we were resorting to boiling water in a pot. The Le Creuset whistler was a no-brainer. Looks so awesome it can live on the stove permanently as a focal point even!
If this rating system had half-stars, I'd take a half star off for the low whistling noise. I've got a camping kettle with a whistle on it too and you can hear that thing from miles away, the Le Creuset I'm not even sure we'd hear it from the dining room. But it doesn't warrant taking a full star off as the kettle works awesome, heats up fast and looks great. Read more

My First Whistling Kettle
Item reviewed: Cerise
Review by Nirvana J. on 31 March 2015, 3 months after purchase
Bright bold kettle! It is lightweight when empty and has a decent capacity and has these bumps on the inside that tell you the maximum level you can fill it to. I have a newer one (arrived in March 2015) and the whistle is VERY loud. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the lid fits extremely tight and I have very much trouble getting it open and closing it again. I sometimes fill it through the spout. But it seems to be getting easier to open and close the more I use it. The other problem is the label that was stuck on the underside of the is very difficult to remove. But other than that it's a great kettle. Read more

After installing a gas hob a few years ago, I have been through a number of stovetop kettles as after a couple of months the whistles detach from the springs due to the steam.... not this one! I have had my Le Creuset Kettle for over a year and it still works like a bomb!
The 1.7 Litre is perfect for a family and boils relatively fast for a stovetop kettle. A bonus is that it looks fantastic in my modern kitchen.

Beautiful addition to my kitchen! Makes coffee and tea taste so much smoother. Just a word of caution: always wait at least ten seconds after turning off the heat to pour water (the ‘overexcited’ bubbling boiling water loves jumping out of the spout and onto your hands when you pour any quicker!). This kettle is both beautiful to look at and really efficient. The handle folds down which is very convenient when storing it away... if you’d ever be inclined to not have it on full display in your kitchen. It’s easy to use, quick to boil and lovely to look at. This was an indulgent purchase, but so glad I made it. I love my new kettle, which boils water quickly and whistles. A great electricity-saving kitchen tool. It looks gorgeous too, on my gas stove. I was a bit worried the white might discolour from the flames, but no issues so far.

I was hesitant about the kettle as it looked much bigger than it is. We ordered the 1.6L which is surprisingly compact but sits beautifully on the gas hob. Water stays warm. The whistle gets louder the longer you leave it.
Other people complain about spilling when they pour. You definitely need to follow the instructions. As a rule I only "prepare" my tea/coffee in my cup once the kettle has boiled and been turned off; if you pop the whistle open during that time the spout and water cool down enough that the water is not still boiling as you pour it.

We love our new kettle, it saves some counter space and adds a great pop of colour to the kitchen. We're using it on an induction stove and found it takes about 7-8 minutes to boil if the kettle is filled to the max line.
I was worried at first that I would accidentally burn myself, but those fears have gone away now. The whistle, handle, and even the metal part of the handle stay cool to the touch. Just move it off the heat & wait a few seconds before lifting the whistle to avoid the steam.
Some reviews mentioned dripping, that's not the case at all - when you lift the whistle & pour there's no dripping.
My only criticism would be that the lid is a little difficult to take off at times, but that's really a minor inconvenience :) Read more

This was our second kettle of this exact make and model. It comes with a 5-year warranty. The first one rusted inside after a couple of years and was kindly replaced.
Now the second kettle is doing the same (again after 2 and a half years) and we'll once more be returning it, but will this time replace it with another brand!
What kind of kettle rusts on the inside? Very disappointing.

I am trying very hard to get a better word than AMAZING, but this is it. We are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year and this kettle was the best ever present to give each other!
The amount of water being cooked is more than enough for a few cups of coffee, the handle does not get warm and the silver stays shiny! Master craftsmanship, value for money and overall WOW, are but a few words to describe our kettle.

It's difficult to imagine that Le Creuset would let their brand be associated with such poor design.
In the pouring of a freshly boiled kettle, one is left wondering how this ever passed any QA. The spout is ineffective in design to the point that water splutters everywhere and drips.
On reflection, it's not difficult to understand why this was on special in the first place. Read more

I think I would recommend it to people if they didn't have a wooden table or counter as it drips when pouring so could leave water damage on the counter. Fundamental Flaw: Poor Pouring

Review by Diana W. on 1 April 2015, 2 months after purchase
Like others I like the overall quality, colour, general look and ease of cleaning. BUT, it is just about impossible to pour from the kettle without dripping/leaking - the one thing a kettle really should be able to do (esp one of this ilk) is to pour easily without spilling water everywhere. It is also excessively heavy which exacerbates the pouring problem. Very disappointed :-(
