Wonderful product - does exactly what it says

Contrary to popular belief, boiling the perfect egg can be hard (excuse the pun). I prefer to eat soft boiled eggs, but need hard boiled eggs for salads, and my husband likes them medium. With this little timer, you get rid of all the guesswork and are left only with eggs boiled to perfection - it's fool-proof and affordable. Excellent value for money!

Kitchen Craft egg timer works every time. No more looking at the clock and timing an egg. I brought one in the UK and was so glad to see that Yuppiechef was stocking them. Gave one to a friend for a birthday present and she was delighted and said that it worked perfectly.

I took it out between medium and hard... and it's exactly what I got! No more guessing if my eggs are ready or not! I boil eggs in the morning and sometimes in a hurry, but end up thinking they are not done yet and I end up with blue eggs. NO MORE :)

In a smaller pot this even keeps the eggs separate if you place it in the middle. It plays well with egg pierces and toppers etc.

Never again will I be left with the uncertainty that comes with boiling eggs! No longer will I risk pulling them out too early, or leaving them until they ricochet like one of Dale Steyn's bouncers!

When you want to focus on more than just a pot of bubbling water, this little guy will watch your eggs for you. It's eggzactly what I need :)

After months of use it has now permanently changed colour to a very faded orange/cream. So not much use now. Initially it would overcook the eggs - is this an altitude thing? Since the water boils at a lower temperature in Johannesburg. But it was consistent so we could adjust.

Nothing fancy about this product. Drop it into the pot of boiling water at the same time as your egg(s) and watch as the timer changes colour with time. Read off the increments on the timer for ‘soft’, ‘medium’ or ‘hard’ and remove your egg at the desired time. My eggs have been spot on each time. Only drawback is you have to keep an eye on it. You can’t put it on and come back in 10 mins. Overall, very good value. Read more

Works better than egg boiling machine gadgets. I find it to be very accurate. Mine has not discolored yet & I’ve used it a crazy amount of times. You do however need to keep an eye on it to ensure eggs are cooked to preference. Eggs need to be removed almost instantaneously otherwise will be cooked further.

This is an incredibly simple but brilliant product. I can never remember when I put eggs on and thus end up killing the poor things for about 20 minutes just to be "safe". It is brilliant having a visual indicator of how done the eggs are. And I can finally have eggs just the way I like them instead of overboiled, blue yolks!

When I purchased this KitchenCraft egg timer I used my old digital timer simultaneously to try to establish the correct spot on the KitchenCraft egg timer as to when my eggs would be perfectly cooked (soft). After 4 attempts I gave up as I realised that the gadget is flawed. In my opinion, the concept appears to be good however practically it is incapable of giving the perfect reading which one needs when boiling eggs. Firstly this device sits at the bottom of a boiling pot of water so one cannot see the device well enough to see how it is responding to the heat, without lifting it out with a spoon every few seconds which defeats the object. Secondly, the device changes colour slowly. It does not indicate clearly enough the difference between the few seconds it takes to move from uncooked to soft to medium. In my opinion, it is only useful when one wants hard-boiled eggs. Read more

The egg timer does not work. We like our eggs medium soft and the timer did not change colour for 10 minutes by which time the eggs were extremely hard. Very disappointed in this product.

I really don't understand how this egg timer works. I put it in cold water with eggs, pot starts boiling and the colour starts to change. The outside of the timer looks more like boiled egg, the yolk part looks gets smaller and I switch off. I like my eggs medium... To my surprise the yolk comes out watery :( It's only been a week, but I stopped using it because it wastes my eggs as I can't eat them in that state and appetite gone! So if there's any video or guidelines on how to use it, I'd really appreciate it. Read more
