I have have been trying to make this decision for sometime now...what are the main uses for a stand mixer vs a food processor? Sounds abit dumb but I want to buy one or the other for now...can't afford both...which should come first?
AND what mixer suits the person who doesn't bake often but is starting to get into it...despite how terrible my attempts have been so far!

I use to use my mom's old mixer until it decided that it had work hard enough and died. I liked using it but I didn't know how fabulous a processor/blender combo could be. I mix all my cakes in the food processor, whip cream, eggs whites are a breeze and no more kneading bread dough by hand. Food processor gets my vote. There are brands that allow you to buy extra attachments at a later stage as and when you need them and can afford them. Most brands have an entry level unit that comes with standard blade (used for chopping but also mixing batter), whisk attachment (to whip cream, egg whites) and a dough blade/hook which is a nice addition. Keep on trying with the baking. In no time you'll look back and see how you've improved.
