Alfille Temperature Controlled Butter Dish — Colour: Silver with Cow Lid

Love it. It’s super hot in summer here in the Cape Winelands and my butter always goes to oil. This works like a charm to keep it cold yet spreadable, whilst super stylish on the breakfast table. Genius. Love it.

My husband's pet hate is butter that is too hard to spread and too soft to stay out of the fridge, especially in the heat of Richards Bay. I nearly fainted at the price but I have to tell you, it is worth every cent to have butter at the perfect spreadable temperature day and night. We love the new funky cow design addition to our kitchen.

I have been looking for something like this for ages. No more rock hard butter in winter or oily smoosh in summer. The real test will be in summer to see if it can keep butter cool enough but not hard. It's quiet and stylish.
It only takes 250g of butter so you have to cut up a normal 500g brick into smaller pieces to make them fit. But that's fine. In hindsight the stainless steel lid might have been better. The plastic lid shows fingerprints easily. But so far I am really happy with this item!! Read more

A substantial amount for a butter dish, but this is not a butter dish as we (used to) know it and an investment (in our mental well-being) rather than an expense. We love butter in our household, and the frustration of butter either being too soft or too hard to use has always been an issue.
No more of that now, so the spending is more than justified by frustration elimination.

/> There is a slight whirring sound emanating from the fan at the bottom that started a few days after first using it. It is not bothersome as such, but have me doubting whether this is normal or an issue with the unit that might become worse and the only reason why I have not given it 5 stars. To be fair though I should actually contact customer support first to find out before commenting.

Regardless of that, it stays a sound investment and without a doubt an acquisition that can be highly recommended.

I am probably more excited about this than I should be, after all, it's just a butter dish.

However it works wonderfully, no more oily liquid in the SA summer, no more rock hard unspreadable brick in winter or having to microwave it when taken from the fridge.

Always has a perfect consistency, it's expensive but recommended to all the butter lovers out there.

The temperature control of the butter works very well.
The size of the dish is just to small to fit a standard brick of butter. So it creates a mess every time you add the butter to the dish.

I had a thought one morning about something that could keep butter spreadable. But the thought alone was daunting. So many things to consider. Then I googled it, and found this little thing. I cannot believe how amazing it is! I must be honest. Perfect butter all the time! In terms of cost of electricity (that is important), it will cost somewhere between R30 and R50 (if you don't have solar) a month depending on how the outside weather is. Phenomenal product! Bitterly dissatisfied with this product. Lid looks scratched already — cow print is poor and bleeds into the white. Haven't switched it on, but definitely returning the product.

After a very long time of agonising to justify the cost vs. my constant fight with cold butter (especially in winter) — I closed my eyes and jumped in. How wonderful to have spreadable butter — a complete luxury. It would have been extra nice if a 500g block fitted exactly — I have to cut about 150g away on the side and about 1cm off the top of the block of butter to fit the tray. If you don't scrape the top, butter will stick to the lid and make a mess. I set the temperature to one of the warmest settings as the mid setting was still too cold. I would recommend this product, but I think many people will frown at the price — including my family who think I am being a "princess and the pea". This is an expensive butter dish. However, I can now spread my butter on bread in winter. Other reviews have complained about the size, that the butter doesn't fit. I slice a quarter of a 500g block of butter to put into the dish, and there is no mess.

Another complaint is that the little motor is noisy, and it probably is. But less so than the fridge. I should probably not have given 5 stars because I don't know yet if it will work in summer. However it works fine in my unheated house (frost outside, warm jersey on) in winter. Read more

It's early days for me with this product but I put it to work right away & my first impression is that it's really doing its job very well. The butter is a perfect spreading consistency so 10/10 on that. Aesthetically there are some questions to answer — and forgive me I'm a detail person +++ — how and why does a black/stainless butter dish come with an 'in your face' white electrical cable and transformer with a pretty short reach? Not a great look on the counter. A pity the butter compartment itself is plastic — was hoping for glass. The product arrived with scuff marks, and the white electrical cord on a black appliance doesn't look good. The unit came preset 'to the correct temperature to keep butter spreadable', but the butter was still too hard to spread. I'm still experimenting with it to find the correct temperature.

The price isn't easy to digest but the butter is...

My friend had one and I loved using it at her dinner party so I decided to get one for ourselves. A family with young kids and a husband who can't stand hard butter, this is a game changer and makes meal time a more fun affair.

After opening the box I immediately realized a 500g block of butter will not fit. It’s just not convenient to cut a side and a top off my butter to fit into the dish. The plug isn’t convenient for South Africa either — it’s a fitting with 2 prongs. Sadly this dish is useless for me.

I am so amazed at the simplicity of this product; yet how life-changing! We have always loved using real butter at home, but most of the time, limited it to only cooking. As you know, the common issue to spread butter on any bread is a nightmare. The butter has kept perfectly and spreads perfectly all the time. The dial underneath lets you adjust the temperature to get the right spread for you. Mine has a plastic lid — no stainless steel.
It keeps the butter soft but the knob has to be turned way past the factory set level, almost to the limit.
