If coffee on the go sounds like your cup of java, the AeroPress will be right up your alley. Designed to take the complications out of coffee, the AeroPress combines the infusing properties of the French press with the pressure of the espresso.

Traditional:
In the traditional method, the press is popped on top of a cup, grounds and water added, and stirred. The coffee begins to drip into the cup immediately, along the same lines as a filter coffee machine, and then pressure is added to force the rest of the water through the grounds, as with espresso.
Inverted:
In the inverted method, the whole apparatus is turned on its head, and grounds and water are added to the mixing chamber, with no drip-through. These are stirred for a few seconds for pre-infusion then, with a cup on the top, the entire thing is flipped over, and pressure is applied to force the water through the grounds.
The perfect brew:
The same rules apply to AeroPress coffee as it does to filter and espresso: the water to ground coffee ratio changes according to what kind of coffee you like. Two scoops will make a double espresso, 1 Americano, depending on the amount of water you add. Pour water in, up to the 2 mark, then stir. If you're making Americanos (or have used more grounds for more coffees), then add more water.Â

The AeroPress makes great coffee - I prefer it over our french press, drip coffee machine and espresso maker. If you grind your own beans it adds to a great coffee ritual. Great taste. Fast. Small. Easy to clean.

OK, I haven't been using it that long and it will take a while before I figure out just how strong to make my coffee. What I can say so far is:
1) It works.
2) It's pretty easy when used the standard way.
3) The inverted method, which is slightly more difficult, does brew a far better cup of coffee. Google "Coffeenate", he has a great tutorial on this.
4) It's easy to clean.
Just remember, this thing effectively produces a concentrated shot of "espresso" (though not technically a true espresso). So, some people will want to dilute the expressed brew afterwards. This is where getting the strength of the coffee right is important. At the moment, and it will take a while to get it right.

Best Coffee Ever

We were really excited to try out this product and couldn't wait for it to arrive! There was so much hype about it that we had quite high expectations for it.
I am happy to say that it is the best coffee maker I have ever used and the taste of the coffee is great. It's simple to use and easy to clean. I thought the tiny filters would be annoying to use but they are actually quite stiff which makes them stay put. You can also reuse the filters quite easily and it doesn't affect the taste of the coffee at all.
The taste of the coffee is amazing. It's definitely better than a drip coffee machine makers because you don't get that burnt/over roasted flavour from the water being too hot or the coffee just sitting around in the machine. It's also better than french-press or Bodum type devices as you don't get the granular bits of coffee at the bottom and the actual product is a lot hardier; many press machines break quite easily.
The potential issue you might have with this coffee maker is the amount of coffee it makes in one use. If you are planning on entertaining and need a coffee machine that makes a lot of coffee, this might not be the product for you but it's still fantastic and quick for everyday use.
We love it so much and because it doesn't require any electricity, we're taking it with us on a camping trip in a couple of weeks. Read more

A nice alternative to percolator machines

This is more effort than a French press/plunger but the coffee you get out of it is nicer. It's perfect for when you want one cup of nice coffee and don't feel like starting up a bigger machine just for that. It's also nice for roadtrips and camping. The taste and quality of the coffee depends heavily on the quality of the water and beans as well as the brewing temperature, so make sure you do all that right to get the best results from this device. Bit free coffee

I bought this product because of the coffee bits that were getting through my plunger mug. I was tired of spitting out pits of coffee towards then bottom of the cup.
To be honest I am not really a coffee snob so for me the main attraction to the device was that it is a plunger with a filter. Needless to say I have enjoyed both the bit free great tasting coffee!

The best bang for your buck

I dismissed the Aeropress as a gimmick when I first saw it, but the hearty endorsements from various coffee oriented sites convinced me to give it a go. It's not as good as a proper espresso machine, but it produces a significantly better cup than a French press. It's also fantastically easy to clean.
This is 80% of the best cup of coffee available at 5% of the price.

The AeroPress is simple to use and makes excellent coffee. It is easy to clean and very portable and unbreakable, so great to take on holiday with you. The only drawback for me is that it only makes one big or two small cups of coffee at a time, I like my coffee!

Bought an Aeropress in May 2013 for R395. Being of plastic construction, it is now no longer functional. Decided to buy another but fell over when I saw the current price... up by R300!!!
While I loved this product, I can't see my way past buying something that I know will eventually fail in 2 years. I expected a longer lifespan.

It's always worried me that one wastes an awful lot of coffee when using a drip machine. With this press one knows one is squeezing out every last molecule of flavour...

I have two of these, one for work and one for the long open road. It can make a superb mug of coffee and I really like the no mess no fuss aspect. Once done, eject the mostly dry plug of coffee into the bin, give plunger a quick rinse and it can be packed away till the next brew. Buy one and enjoy.

It is easy to transport and use. Makes a great tasting coffee. Little bit of a hassle to make 2 cups of Americano without a carafe as I have to move the Aeropress to the 2nd cup halfway through the press process.

I've toyed with the idea for some time, but after trying the coffee a few times I decided it was time. I conventionally use a stove-top (Bialetti) for my coffee, but the AeroPress makes incredible coffee. It is easy and for 1 - 2 people, is ideal.

I heard much about the AeroPress in my coffee snobbery education over the years. I actually stuck my nose up at it when I saw one in the flesh a year ago in a cafe because of the paper filters. Well now I've reached the point where I'm too particular about my hand brewed coffee to not give it a try and man was I blown away.
It's idiot proof, well built and makes the finest cup of coffee I've ever pressed myself. What's even better is that there are so many existing recipes and techniques, with more being invented constantly around the globe. I can't recommend it enough if you like a hand made cup of coffee like I do.
I also highly recommend you pick up a Stainless Steel filter to go along with it as I'm still not a paper filter fan because of their oil absorption. Read more

This little gadget does some of what it promises. It is easy to use and super easy to clean. It also gives a cup of coffee superior to that of my drip coffee machine. Yum! The only problems, 1. I have not found it possible to make more than one cup of coffee or espresso at a time, it really cannot hold enough coffee or water to make the 4 cups it says you can make, 2. If one tries to make stronger coffee by using more coffee grounds it becomes impossible to depress the plunger. Perhaps it is inexperience with the gadget that has caused these problems but making one cup of delicious coffee at a time is so handy, rather than cranking up an entire machine, that I can forgive this. What is almost as much fun to clean as it is to use and is not attached to your body? The AeroPress coffee maker. That satisfying plop of the wad of spent coffee grounds leaving the AeroPress is like music compared to cleaning other coffee makers. Make space in your cupboard where your moka pots and other coffee makers can gather dust.

I got the Aeropress because my company was cutting costs and removed the, admittedly average, coffee machines from the office and replaced them with all you can drink cheap coffee brand. As I didn't want to drink cheap coffee brand, and getting decent coffee a few times a day from our coffee shop is not a financially sound decision I decided to take a gamble on the Aeropress. The Aeropress works really well and it makes delicious coffee. From an empty cup to a full one (including froth and quick equipment rinse) takes less than 3 minutes. Which gives you more than 10 minutes to savour the deliciousness in your 15 minute break. Simplicity and efficiency adds up to genius.

I've always found that using a normal single cup filter just takes too long and a French press leaves the coffee bitter and aroma-less. The AeroPress gives you the best of both worlds; fast, easy to clean and oodles of aroma. Great!

I bought an AeroPress as an alternative to taking a coffee plunger into the office, and for travelling - it's small and compact, and easier to clean than a plunger. The coffee is smooth and rich with no grit at the bottom of the cup. My only misgiving is that it's difficult to produce large amounts of coffee with it, but that's a minor issue.

Everything people are saying about this little machine is true, it gets you a perfect cup of coffee faster than a percolator or french press and the quality is as good as you'd get from a professionally brewed cup. We have a cappuccino maker. I bought the Aeropress in the hopes of being able to make good espresso-like coffee while away on leave. The coffee is only so so when compared to what our machine produces. I guess if you are used to filter coffee, it is not bad, but definitely not for me!

The AeroPess can sometimes be a bit tricky to use. On occasion I have ended up with coffee all over the shelf. When it does work, it is great! Easy to clean, and the coffee tastes good. It requires quite a bit of strength to press it down, though! When it does work properly, the coffee is great!

This is a great way to experiment with and have fun exploring the different facets of coffee flavour, aroma, intensity and taste. I find it quite a bit more cumbersome to use than a capsule machine for example, but the option of a lower pressure filter as opposed to an espresso does offer great taste variations.

Received my Aeropress about two weeks ago and I'm very satisfied. Quick to use and a dream to clean, with a delicious cup of coffee as a result.
The only negative is that after the first run in the dishwasher the gold numbering (shown as blue in the pictures) was washed off, but seeing as it is so easy to use I would still recommend it.

Only got this today and have used it for 3 cups so far and VERY impressed with my purchase! I have to be honest that initially I wanted one of the R4500+ machines but glad that eventually I have settled on one of these. Easy to use, easy to clean, hard to mess up! My Aeropress sees use multiple times a day! I rarely drink coffee any other way. It's as easy as instant coffee and tastes as good as professionally made coffee. This is the leading source of coffee addiction in my household!

Love the idea of not having pods, produces great coffee, the spoon is quite big so even on the largest quantity of water it still produces a very strong cup. Even on the largest quantity of water it does not really produce a large mug of coffee. If it can be bigger it would really be nice. I have tried almost all the coffee makers out there, Breville machine, plunger, stove top, you name it, this one is by far the most simple easy way to make delicious coffee. Its also super easy to clean. Once you know how it works, it is a brilliant product to use. Highly recommend it. Would suggest warming coffee in microwave for a minute before you add coffee to make it nice and hot.

We are addicted to our AeroPress! It honestly is a huge step up from a coffee plunger and we'll never go back. We also bought the Krups grinder and now grind our our beans so sure this has also helped improve the taste. Get one, you won't be disappointed! Just don't put it in the dishwasher because the markings come off.

As with all things in life, a little bit of attention to detail can make a massive difference. With the right temperature, measurements and a little timing, you can produce coffee better than most restaurants, on a camp stove in Hartenbos, without any fancy barista tricks.
I've owned an Aeropress for 2 years. This is my second one (got sick of carting it to work every day). Where my current one is black plastic with grey numbers, this model is grey plastic with gold numbers. Both very high quality in very nice packaging.

Those are the categories I look at when drinking coffee.
What a plunger-style contraption is concerned, the Aeropress is as good as you will get, bar none. The flavour extraction is top notch but I believe the appeal of the Aeropress lies more in the smoothness that it produces. It is like drinking a pour over coffee but with more nuances in the flavour. If someone wants to start drinking their coffee unadulterated, i.e without sugar or milk, then an Aeropress is a great place to start off with.
With the paper filters you do not get the same level of coffee-oil extraction as you would with a metal filter. However, not all coffees have a nice oily extract so when you start experimenting between a paper and a metal filter you will start understanding a specific origin/blend of coffee even more intricately.
Take it on a hike or use it in the home.
The level of effort it takes to clean an Aeropress will make any bachelor happy as it requires a basic rinse off and then you're done.
If I'm not sitting in a coffee shop drinking an Americano, then 9/10 I will use my Aeropress. I only take my coffee one way: Seriously.

The Aeropress is really useful to make single cups in the office. It is more fiddly than I had expected but easy to get the hang of. Advantage over capsule coffee machines is that the only waste is the filter paper (which I assume is biodegradable) and the coffee grounds, which definitely are!! I cannot successfully reuse the filter paper as suggested in the package insert, as I find it impossible to dry it sufficiently flat that it works efficiently. These are amazing - especially for traveling. I keep one in the boot with a small camping gas boiler whenever I travel. No more disappointing coffees at petrol stations.

Awesome brewing coffee with the Aeropress. I've pretty much tried everything except this, so I was keen to try it out. Works very well, but note that it amplifies your coffee. Old stale beans that can sort of pass under the radar in other coffee makers tastes awful in the Aeropress. However, fresh beans are super tasty with the Aeropress. Love it!

I've used a French press many times but this device is just so much easier to clean afterwards. I like the fact that the coffee grounds are compressed into a puck and it's so simple to just pop this puck out into the composter with no mess, then just a quick rinse and the Aeropress is ready to make another brew.
