Where can I find vital wheat gluten in South Africa?

Jocelyn R. | 07 Aug 2014 in General (Category closed) | 7 Responses

I'm an avid bread baker, and I used vital wheat gluten in America to help the texture of homemade breads along. But I can't seem to find it here in South Africa, Joburg specifically.

Does anyone know where I can purchase some, other than a bulk bakery supplier?

have you asked at your local bakery? It might be called bread improver here.

Hi Jocelyn,

I'm looking for vital wheat gluten myself and just saw that Nature's choice makes something called Gluten Powder. I'm not sure whether this is exactly the same, but the product description says that it is to improve breads. So I think it will work - I'll definitely try it out!

Here's a link to the product: http://www.natureschoice.co.za/bio-friendly/sundry-health-food-lines/gluten-powder/

Nature's choice is carried by a lot of health shops, pharmacies, etc. I saw it here: http://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/Natures-Choice-Gluten-Powder-p-4298.html

You wont find gluten at wellness warehouse (they specialize more in gluten free) or regular chain shops.

You can buy online and have it delivered from breademporium.co.za and veganprotein.co.za
