Heated plates

What's the etiquette or entertainment expectation in South Africa when it comes to serving food on heated plates? In the UK it's par for the course but in France it's apparently not the norm. And is warm or piping hot better?

I definitely prefer my plates just slightly warmed in winter - nothing worse than dishing a lovely piping hot meal and it cools instantly when hitting the cold plate!

Agree with Louise.

I hate plates that are so piping hot they come with a health and safety warning, plus you don't want the food to carry on cooking on the way to the table.
