Can metal spoons be used with non-stick cookware?

Hello!

While watching Kamini Pather make the beef teriyaki, I noticed she used a metal spoon towards the end of the video to dish out from the wok. She had previously been using wooden spoons to stir fry the meat and veggies.

However, I have always been told to use a wooden spoon with my non-stick cookware.

Is this not a general rule or is it okay to use a metal spoon when dishing out from a non-stick pot?

Thanks to clarify this for me!

Kind regards

Hi Nafiisah,

Well spotted!

We always advise that you don't use metal utensils on non-stick cookware, because this can cause scratches to the surface of your pot or pan. With most non-stick cookware brands, use of metal objects on the product will also void the warranty.

That said, much like Kamini, we all have our preferences for what items we use in the kitchen, and also how we use them. My advise would be to always err on the side of caution and follow the user care and guidelines that come with your product.

I hope that helps :)

You shouldn't use any metal utensils on a nonstick cookware. Use wood or silicone utensils instead.

It might scratch up the coating, causing little bits of the teflon to get in your food.I don't think teflon is meant for human consumption. The point about being able to use brand new pans every time is valid. Here is a website I buy safe kitchen accessories frequently - https://www.homehubme.com/product-category/kitchen-dining-accessories/
