One of the things I miss most about Bali is freshly made, thick and creamy, almond nut milk. It tastes absolutely nothing like its boxed counterpart we find in the grocery isles here and doesn't have 50,000 additives.
So after ruminating about fresh almond milk for some time, I came across the Lekue Veggie Drinks Maker at Yuppiechef and was overjoyed.
I put in my order as fast as possible, and as usual Yuppiechef were fantastic and delivered the item the next day.
I couldn't wait to get started. Basically, you are instructed to soak your nuts in one container overnight, then use a blender to blend it together, and then use the other container to strain the nut milk.
I followed instructions to the T, hoping for some rich and creamy nut milk. I don't like to give bad reviews, I really don't. But this item was so bad that I actually took 15 minutes out of my life to ensure no one else wasted their hard earned cash on this rubbish.
First of all, I do not recommend (as per Lekue instructions) that you use a hand blender to blend almonds. It is not sufficient. Also my Braun blender is now broken. Thanks Lekue.
The sieve / filter part of the Veggie Drinks Maker absolutely does not work either. Buy some cheesecloth instead - trust me, you will thank me.
I now have a kilogram of almond nuts that will most likely go to waste, a broken Braun blender, and this ridiculous apparatus from Lekue that absolutely DOES NOT WORK. I can comfortably say that this has been my worst buy of my entire life. Do not waste your money.
Since then I've done some research as if you're craving real almond milk, then google how to make almond milk with almond butter, prunes, and water. It's a pleasure.
Yuppiechef - hold up your good name and take this off your product list.
