Espresso meets gelato: an easy affogato
This is the easiest affogato recipe made either with espresso and homemade gelato or instant and store bought vanilla ice cream.
Prep time: 15 minutes | Makes 1
2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (store bought or homemade vanilla ice cream)
1 shot of espresso
1. Brew a shot of espresso in whatever way pleases your caffeine loving heart. Set it aside to cool slightly.
2. Scoop the vanilla ice cream into a glass, making sure there’s enough room for the coffee to run into the glass (clear glasses versus mugs make for prettier presentation).
3. Pour the espresso over the ice cream. Espresso makes for a marvellous tasting affogato but instant coffee (about 3 tablespoons and a tot of hot water) works just fine.
4. Sprinkle some nuts, chocolate shavings or biscotti crumbs on top and serve with a teaspoon or straw.
