Made in open vats with beer of mixed fermentation, the Goudenband is left to mature for four to 12 months in the cellar. The mature beer is then fortified with younger beer, so the fermentation process starts up again. The result is a dry, lightly caramelised malt flavour, enriched with fruity notes and hints of nuts and dried raisins.
- Red-brown in colour
- Small off-white head
- Aromas of caramel, apple, rhubarb, cherries and malt, with flavours of apple and cherries, combined with woody notes, and nuts and dried raisins in the finish
- Stores well and improves over time
- Pairs well with blue cheese
- Alcohol by volume: 8%

One of the truly great beers of the world, right up there with St Bernardus and the Rochefort 10. It is a "provisie bier" that can be aged for ten years, during which the taste will develop nicely.
That said, it is perhaps not for people who prefer lagers, pilsners or cream soda.

The packaging promised a lot but the product never delivered. This my second Liefmans product and I have been thoroughly disappointed by both. How what these people put in bottle can be called beer is a mystery. Stay clear and drink real beer. Packaging does not make rubbish into beer.
