Product Info

A deep ruby colour and featuring aromas of dark cherry and juicy plums with an edge of perfumed sweet spice, the Shiraz is a rich, complex and expressive wine with well-integrated tannins. An excellent food wine, it pairs well with a roast leg of lamb, ribeye steak and grilled pork and soft and hard cheese.

  • Platters award logo
  • Shiraz, 2019
  • Grapes sourced from a distinct selection of dryland vineyards in Swartland on predominantly coffee-stone soils
  • Grapes were handpicked, de-stalked, lightly crushed and cold-soaked for 24 hours.
  • After being fermented on the skins in open fermenters with frequent punch-downs, malolactic fermentation was completed in French oak barrels. The wine was then racked and sent to 30% new barrels for 12 months
  • Deep ruby colour brooding with aromas of dark cherry, and juicy plums with an edge of perfumed sweet spice.
  • Rich, complex and expressive with well-integrated tannins
  • Food Pairing: Roast leg of lamb, ribeye steak and grilled pork with soft and hard cheese

Pieter Den Deen Erasmus journeyed from the Netherlands to the Cape in winter 1693, and 6 years later was granted the farm De Groenebergh in Wellington, (formerly known as Wagenmakersvallei) by Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel. Erasmus and his wife, Maria Elizabeth Jooosten had nine children — the first born was their son, Rasmus. Until his death in 1731, Erasmus lead the way for what today thrives as green, stretching vineyards, and as the forebearer of the Erasmus Family of South Africa, his legacy continues to prosper in his descendants who are still crafting wine in this region today.
