DeLonghi Scultura Selections 4-Slice Toaster, 1800W

I'd been eyeing this particular model for quite a few years and was finally fortunate to have had the spare money to buy one recently.

Firstly, the packaging is excellent. You can buy this item without fear of it being damaged from basic handling. The toaster itself is fairly robust and large. As with most toasters with slightly higher price brackets, it comes with a few functions such as 'reheat', 'defrost' and 'bagel'. I don't plan to ever use these functions, but if they're the kind of thing a buyer might be looking for, I imagine they work just fine.

I use the product simply to toast bread, and it does so excellently, with a beautiful, even toasting effect. Cheaper toasters tend to toast slightly unevenly, with the worst offenders having huge variations in toast levels.

The dials to set the toast level are nice and turn very easily. I have not yet tested on the 1 or 6 levels, but every other level has done a good job of providing toast according to how one wants their toast to appear.

The crumb trays are easily removable and easy to attach, which is fairly standard for upper-end toasters such as these.

It's worth mentioning that I find the button one has to push down to make toast requires quite a good push to have it stay down. It's nothing that would bother any able-bodied person, but it is a consideration for more frail people that a tiny bit of pressure needs to be applied, but not too different from most toasters.

The toast-popping sound is fairly loud, which is to be expected. I've yet to encounter a stealth toaster of this type.

All in all, it is an excellent, elegant toaster, and as I am quite serious about toast, I can say that it pleased me. If the product lasts for many years, I will be comfortable giving it five stars, but at the time of this writing, it's been only a month since I first got it. The bottom line is, it's R3000 for a toaster. If you really love toast, I can recommend this product. Consider your priorities. If toast is a huge part of your life, give it a try. Read more
