We are lucky enough that one of our few coffee machines at the office is a fully manual mid range single group head machine with a separate decent conical burr grinder. We needed another coffee machine for some boardrooms downstairs and couldn't afford the noise of the manual setup. Also we couldn't have had a permanent person down there making coffee, it needed to be easy and quiet.
We knew that a bean to cup would never be on par, but we had to try and get one that would make the least bad coffee. After much stressing and procrastinating, we got this one. Mainly because the milk container is attached to the machine and not in a funny little fridge next to it connected via pipe that I knew would get gross fast.
It's as we expected it to be. Not mindblowingly amazing and certainly not good enough for coffee snobs. But it's totally fine for your average Jo.
I have, however, found a way to make a cappuccino on this machine that I can drink. Don't use the auto cappuccino. Make a strong flavour, short espresso (this ensures that it does not over draw). Then double tap the auto cappuccino button to make foamed milk. The only problem with this that it's not that hot. You need to heat up the cup before and drink it quickly. Even if you turn up the temperature of the machine it only increases the temp of the shot and not the milk. Read more
