Wine Evaluation Course Giveaway

Heard of GetSmarter? They offer specialist training online. Now there’s an idea.

This firecracker company is the leader in its field and the first and only entirely online entity to gain SETA accreditation. In a nutshell, they partner with top universities and industry experts to offer South Africans long distance professional short courses online.

A quick scan of their offering for 2011 reveals an impressive line-up including University of Cape Town’s Internet Marketing, Business Economics and Digital Photography courses, Wine Evaluation à la Stellenbosch University and a Creative writing course by Random House Struik. There’s even a course on running a guest house.

For anyone with a busy life and a thirst for more knowledge – this is a goldstrike.

GetSmarter are giving away a place on their Stellenbosch University Wine Evaluation course (valued at R5,500) to one lucky Yuppiechef friend. Ayoba.

The ten week part-time course is convened by Charl Theron, currently an oenology lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch and previously in management at KWV for thirty years. Course participants learn about the practical evaluation of wine, receive 18 bottles of wine and taste over 80 samples of wine, explore the South African wine industry (viticulture, winemaking, storing and serving of wine, faulty wines) and take a look at international wine production in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and California.

Practically, it involves completing and submitting ten weekly modules online and attending two practical workshops and we think it sounds rather fantastic. Anyone living in South Africa can do the course (as long as you an get to the workshops in Johannesburg or Cape Town).

Go to their competition page to enter and find out more.

And if you are interested in finding out more about any of the courses contact Emma on emma@getsmarter.co.za or 021 685 4775.
