What we’ve loved about Winter

We are by no means out of the winter woods, but with a wonderful warm spell (and the illusion of the onset of spring) we were prompted to ponder some of our favourite moments of winter 2011 thus far. Hopefully these favourite moments will convince winter to quit while it’s ahead…

Sean: I was flying from Cape Town to Durban a few weeks ago and decided to ask for a window seat instead of an aisle seat. I’m usually paranoid about the equipment I carry, and feel the need to watch the overhead locker like a hawk in case I have to spring into action to save my falling cameras, because of some inconsiderate passenger rummaging through mid-flight (it’s happened before). This time though I decided to relax the OCD and brave the window seat. I wasn’t disappointed. I got a view of almost uninterrupted snow on the mountains all the way from just outside Cape Town to just before landing in Durban. Beautiful.

Dale: My favourite moment is still to come… once we have moved next door with carpeted floors I can walk around in my big pink slippers!

Carol: Oh I enjoyed the Yuppiechef social teas, great bonding among staff, milk tarts, chocolate cakes, giggles at Shane’s childhood jokes. Priceless moments.

Andrew: The swimming pool being full and the garden watered without having to use the hose! Horlicks at night on the couch.

Phil: When did winter arrive and depart? I guess my favourite moment has to be the force of the incessant downpours… loved it!

Louise: Red wine and a roast dinner at a friend’s holiday house in Scarborough while a a torrential downpour and a gale force wind raged around us.

Ntando: I am interested to see what Phil will be wearing in summer, seeing that he is already wearing shorts…

Shane: After work, Charise and I walking around our garden in the winter dark with a cup of coffee in hand trying very hard to see the progress that the builders have made that day! Sounds weird, but I won’t forget this.

Tony: My favourite winter moment this year is a Sunday lunch we had at home with my whole family. This was no ordinary Sunday lunch, we ate a bit late but it was fun and warm.

Deon: Hmm, crackling from a roast pig shoulder and pumpkin fritters! Yum.

Erin: Winter will certianly NOT be missed by me, but I will miss cuddling round the fire place with my family and a good movie.

Marina: I had an amazing evening at Polana, eating grilled calamari and drinking coke (infinitely more delicious than wine) curled up next to a giant window overlooking the sea with a warm fire and great company.

Kaylee: I WILL not miss winter! I had lunch at Glen Afric, in the North West, on Sunday with my Aunt and Uncle. It was freezing cold but the view and place was beautiful. And to add to that, we got to feed the elephants.

Michael: My favourite moment of winter 2011 was when I lit the first fire of the season in our fire place, that moment brought warmth to my soul.

Winter, maybe you can stay for a little longer. Any favourite moments out there that rival these?
