Vanilla Horlicks

If you tasted vanilla essence when you were little because it smelt so good and malty Horlicks on a cold stormy night sounds like your cup of heat – this simple to make hot drink will be music to your lips (especially if you can get hold of some vanilla pods).

Ingredients (serves 6)

6 cups milk
1 vanilla pod (or 1 teaspoon vanilla essence)
½ cup Horlicks
Sugar, to taste
1 cup milk, frothed

Method

Place the milk, horlicks and halved vanilla pod in a large saucepan and bring to a simmer over low heat. Simmer for 1 minute and add sugar to taste. Remove from heat. Use a milk frother to froth and warm the extra milk.

Pour the vanilla horlicks among serving cups and place a dollop of frothed milked on each. Serve.
