Top Kitchen Tools of 2011

We’re still reeling from the happy whirlwind that was 2011. As is our custom, we bring you a walk through the kitchen tool hits of 2011 and reveal which tools rocked the most boats over the last 12 months.
Some of these we knew were going to happen (the Zoku was a dead giveaway, it is widely loved), while others were a blast from the past or a bolt from the blue. You’re a decisive lot. And the bestseller of 2011 is coincidentally the bestseller of 2008

1. Mode Fridge Monkey
Our bestseller in 2008 and 2011, it seems good design and practicality just don’t go out of style. The Mode Fridge Monkey makes fridge stacking and organisation a breeze.

2. Zoku Quick Pop Maker
These flew off our shelves, and we’re not surprised. Quick, simple, convenient and fun, the Zoku Quick Pop Maker has cooled hundreds of homes since we launched it in June. Well done, Zoku, we like you too.

3. Kitchen Craft Herb Scissors
A golden oldie,  these multi-bladed Herb Scissors make quick work of chopping herbs into tiny pieces for salads, sauces and more. 5 snips for one cut with precision blades? Magic.

4. Le Creuset Mini Stoneware Cocottes (10cm)
Everyone likes a good miniature. These 10cm mini cocottes flew out of the warehouse in all of Le Cresuet’s popping colours with cassis topping the charts.
5. Victorinox Paring Knife Round Serrated (11cm)
Enduringly popular, the Victorinox round serrated knife has graced the hand of many a home cook slicing tomatoes, paring vegetables and just generally being awesome. Available in vibrant pink or green to stand out in the cutlery drawer. Winner.

6. Fusion Brands PoachPod (Set of 2)
Poaching eggs can be tricky: creating a vortex in the water, to getting to boil at the right speed, ending up with a pot full of egg ribbons… Not delicious. The Fusionbrands PoachPods solved poaching, and the sales back that up to the extreme. Made of durable, flexible silicone, you can poach eggs, you can use them to shape and portion rice or mashed potatoes or to mould individual servings of jelly or even panna cotta. Excellent.
7. Swiss Diamond 20cm “TRY ME PAN”
Swiss Diamond pans are imbued with diamond for an extra hard non-stick surface and the “Try Me” Pan has been a runaway success. Designed for those wanting to test run Swiss Diamond before investing in a full set, these pans sell like hot cakes. Many of us at Yuppiechef HQ have opted for this great frying pan (ask us, we can talk about them for hours).

8. Le Creuset Stoneware Mug, 350ml
Le Creuset is loved by many, and last year people didn’t stop at cocottes and cookware. The stoneware coffee mugs sold steadily as people brought the popular French cooking icon into their morning ritual of good brew. Available in 9 cheerful colours, the runaway favourite was cherry red. Hooray for Le Creuset!
9. KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer
Most coveted of all our tools, it stands to reason the iconic KitchenAid Stand Mixer should feature in our bestsellers list. Stylishly retro, with a huge range of attachments, the KitchenAid is the ultimate kitchen helper.

10. Kitchen Craft Let’s Make Sandwich Crust Cutters
The Let’s Make Sandwich Crust Cutters were this year’s dark horse. Honestly, we didn’t know just how much people liked making sandwiches in fun shapes. But we’re glad. Dolphins and dinosaurs for the win.

So those are last year’s favourites and we can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us. Got a 2011 kitchen tools favourite you think should have been up in lights? Let us know.

  1. I do not drop a lot of responses, but i did some
searching and wound up here Top Kitchen Tools of 2011 | Spatula Magazine. And I do have a few questions for
you if you usually do not mind. Is it only me or does it look as if like some
of the responses look as if they are left by brain
dead visitors? :-P And, if you are writing at other places, I’d like to keep up with anything fresh you have to post. Could you list of all of all your shared sites like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
