Review: Wusthof magnetic knife rack

As far as I’m concerned, the conclusive sign that you are becoming a foodie is if you start collecting good knives. All of a sudden the R20 specials from your local Checkers just won’t do, and you start rolling the word ‘Wusthof’ around your mouth like a particularly good piece of dark chocolate.

This is what happened to us. And as it happens, we managed to collect a rather sweet collection of good knives, with one problem – we had nowhere to put them. Our knife drawer looks like something at a flea market junk stall. Or should I say ‘looked’ because that was before we treated ourselves to the rather lovely Wusthof magnetic knife rack – in walnut.

What I loved about this knife rack almost as much as the clean and lovely way it looks, is that it took a grand total of twenty minutes to put up. The rack comes with everything you need to assemble it, and is is easy to do.

You simply measure the spot you want it to live (so that it’s level – very important), drill the necessary holes, fit the brackets and then slot that baby in.

And voila! One beautiful way to display your knives. I do have one small addition, which is that the instructions tell you to drill a 7mm hole, but that turned out to be too big – it should have been 6mm. You can learn from our mistake.
