Minichefs: Biltong and maple syrup flapjack stacks

Crumpets are an all-time breakfast treat for the father of our family. Usually served with butter and syrup, we have recently discovered the joys of adding bacon! As an extra special treat for Father’s Day, we are adding in the surprise of moist, sliced biltong on the side.

Tools Used:
Mixing bowl
Electric mixer
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons
Sieve
Desert spoon
Spatula

Ingredients used:
1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
150ml milk (1 cup + 2Tbs)
1/2 tsp vanilla
2tsp oil
1 cup flour
1tsp baking powder
Vegetable oil

These ingredients should make 12 crumpets. We halved the recipe for each child to make enough batter for 6 crumpets.

Method:
1. Set a pan on medium-high and add oil to coat.

2. Crack an egg into a bowl, add the sugar and mix.

3. Add milk, vanilla and oil and mix.

4. Sieve in the flour and baking powder. Beat with an electric mixer to combine.

5. Place desert spoonfuls of batter into the heated pan. Flip the crumpet when bubbles start to form on the surface.

6. Remove from the pan and place on a cooling rack. (or plate).

7. Serve with warm Maple Syrup and biltong (or bacon) on the side. It was delightful with biltong, give it a spin.
