How it works: Zoku Ice Ball

It was shipped down into the cities from the snowy hilltops to chill the drinks of kings. It’s kept our food and drinks cold for hundreds of years. Yes, there’s something wonderful about ice. The only problem, as far as we can gather, is that it melts so quickly in the hot, African sun. No fear, the Zoku Ice Ball is here.

Why do we love it? Because its bigger and takes longer to melt, giving our drinks the chill they need without watering them down too much. A giant ball of the chilly stuff, designed just for you (and your whiskey)? Here’s how it works.

How it works:

1. Each sphere is made up of two halves. The plastic frame holds it upright in the freezer, while the silicone inner cradles the water.

2. To use, snap the two sides together securely.

3. Fill with water using the hole in the top of the ball. For a clear effect, boil the water first to remove impurities, but wait for it to cool before pouring it in.

4. Freeze overnight, then twist the two halves apart. Pushing from the back of the silicone, pop the ice ball out of its home and into your drink.

It really is as easy as that. An innovative idea, smart design and a whole problem sorted (they even come in packs of two, so you can store frozen balls in the freezer). That’s what we like to see – thanks, Zoku.
