How it works: Espro Coffee Press

It’s no secret that we love the simplicity of brewing coffee at home with the French press. What we’re not so fond of, however, is the sludge awaiting us at the bottom of the cup as we take our last sip. Enter the Espro Coffee Press, a remarkable update on the age old French press that ensures grit-free coffee with a delectably clean flavour. Here’s how to use it.

Espro-filters

1. Add your coffee grounds – about 100g for the large pot or a heaped tablespoon for every cup.

2. Fill the pot with hot (not boiling) water up to the fill line and give it a stir to ensure the grounds are all well saturated.

3. Make sure both filters are in place. Pop the lid on and wait four minutes.

4. Plunge slowly like you would any other French press. If the plunger is too hard to press, wiggle it upwards and continue pressing.

The basket shaped plunger is fitted with stainless steel, micro filter gauze that gets below the coffee grounds. It filters the coffee twice and ensures that only the flavourful coffee oils are allowed to pass through. It’s also fitted with a double rubber gasket that prevents the coffee from steeping in the grounds when you have finished plunging, which means that the coffee can sit in the pot for as long as you like.

Worried about the coffee getting cold? The double walled, vacuum-insulated, stainless steel body retains heat for hours, so you can sip slowly while you peruse the paper or prepare your coffee well in advance of enjoying it.

Cheers to the folks at Espro, who have so deliciously proved that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
