Favourite recipes from our mums

In a quest to pay homage to the awesome ladies who love us this Mother’s Day, we asked for recipes passed down by your marvellous mums. To our great delight, we got quite a few, all with heart-squeezing stories and, while it was almost impossible to choose, we quickly noticed a trend towards desserts and classic cake recipes. So here are our favourites, baked in our very own Test Kitchen and worth paying tasty tribute to.

Malva pudding

Lenore Scheepers sent in her mum’s recipe for a mouth-watering malva pudding. Sticky and sweet with a hint of apricot jam, this one’s a lovable local. Custard, anyone?

Chocolate cake

Looking for death by chocolate? Thank the stars for Megan Hutton’s mum’s ‘revoltingly delicious’ chocolate cake recipe. Warm and gooey, this is the ultimate in comfort food.

Carrot cake

With a tale almost sweeter than the cake, Michele Smit and her mum’s special recipe for carrot cake is going to win more hearts than they know. Rich and decadent, the stuff memories are made of.

Milk tart

Renée Nesbitt, our merchandiser here at Yuppiechef HQ, and her mum worked their love for a classic milk tart into a recipe of their own. And these brave baking hearts sure conjured up some magic, which we’re ever so glad they chose to share.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their cherished tribute recipe to their mum. It was incredibly hard to choose which to bake in our kitchen but to show just how chuffed we are, we’re sending each of you a R200 Yuppiechef voucher to spend on something you and mum can enjoy together this Mother’s Day.
