The Yuppiechef Enkosi Cookathon

[Competition closed]

Welcome to the Enkosi Cookathon, a celebration of South Africanness where you cook food with friends, send us a photo and stand a chance to win some of the world’s best kitchen tools. Yebo.

After the wonderful response to our Community Cookathon this time last year (and the numerous requests we’ve had for another since) we are pleased to announce that the second Yuppiechef cookathon has begun – this time with a delicious dollop of local flavour. Hello, Enkosi Cookathon.

We’ve teamed up with three South African food icons – Ina Paarman, Justin Bonello and Phillippa Cheifitz – and put together a collection of seven quintessentially South African recipes that embody the diversity of our flavourful rainbow nation. From Bobotie and Phutu and Relish to Spicy Chicken Livers and Koeksisters, the collection is broad in flavour and influence and we think every South African should be able to cook at least one of the seven… Up for the challenge?

The good news is that everyone who takes part will get a little something for participating (yes, we said everyone). The even better news is that the bold souls who cook their way through all seven Enkosi Cookathon dishes will qualify for the grand prize of a Yuppiechef kitchen tool hamper worth R2,500. That’s big.

Here’s what you need to do:

1) Choose an Enkosi Cookathon recipe
2) Cook it for friends and family
3) Take a photo
4) Submit it through the form below before 10am on 24 October (when entries close).

On Twitter? Tweet an action shot of you cooking up an #enkosicookathon storm and you might land yourself a spot prize (did someone say Ina Paarman hamper?) for including us in the process.

Here are the recipes:

Lamb Curry with Brinjals | Ina Paarman
Bobotie | Ina Paarman
Milk Tart | Phillippa Cheifitz
Phutu and Relish | Phillippa Cheifitz
Koeksisters | Justin Bonello
Malva Pudding | Justin Bonello
Spicy Chicken Livers | Justin Bonello

If you are a vegetarian and aiming for the grand prize, feel free to freestyle the three recipes that contain meat or choose any other Spatula recipes (like falafel or achar) as replacements.

The only (friendly) conditions are that your photo is of your food (and not from the interweb – we’re watching you) and that only one entry per dish cooked is submitted (i.e. you and your six kids/friends can’t each send a different shot of the same dish). And that you live in South Africa. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

The competition runs until midnight 23 October when all of the entries need to be in. Let the fun begin.
