Foodiction blows us away

Earlier this year, some cooking sessions with a handful of busy kids and inspiring mums sparked off the foodie adventure we call Minichefs. This weekend our Minichef adventure reached new and great heights with a cooking session of the most epic proportions at Foodiction in Jo’burg.

Foodiction is a state of the art cooking school in Bryanston, Johannesburg (think all the latest appliances, Yuppiechef tools, plasma screens and top notch chefs) and, on Saturday 27th August, we headed there with 24 kids and their parents to learn a thing or five from Irish Chef Barry.
The kids were excited; the parents were excited (probably more to put their feet up and relax whilst sipping champagne or coffee and eating delicious snacks) and we were excited. Excited to be in Jozi and in what must surely be one of the most beautiful cooking schools in the land.

Under the watchful eyes of chefs Barry, Jonathan, Warren, Jessie and Mel, the kids cooked up a monumental storm. It started with lemon pie (yes, little ones as young as 6 can learn about ‘blind baking’) and ended with individual bunny chows (spicy, as we like them) and in between there was a cupcake icing frenzy. For the full recipes, find out how to make bunny chow and lemon pie.
Foodiction raised the Minichef bar and then some. It comes as no surprise that their kids parties are an absolute hit and, if we lived in JHB, we’d also be pretty excited about the cooking courses they have planned for adults.
Foodiction can accommodate up to 20 people for hands-on instruction. Their tools will make you drool (Joseph Joseph nesting bowls and the lauded elevate set) and there are multiple screens, cameras and recording facilities so that everyone can keep a beady eye on the chef in charge.

A few of the adult courses on offer over the next few months:

Friday 9 September, 18.30pm – Sushi Class
Saturday 17 September, 10am – Decadent desserts and cupcakes
Saturday 8 October, 10am – High tea for Kings and Queens
Saturday 29 October, 10am – Halloween treats for the whole family

Check these out and sign yourself up or get in touch with Foodiction ([email protected]) and have a chat about private parties and any other courses you might be interested in.
Our day of culinary fun was magic. A hearty high five to all the kids involved and to the Foodiction team who way exceeded our expectations in such a big way.

Keep your eyes glued to Spatula as the Minichef adventure unfolds, and make sure you are signed up for our newsletter where we will announce the next Minichef session open to you and your little people.

Finally, if you have an aspiring Minichef, we’d love to hear from you, so send us your recipes and photos and we might just make you famous.
