67 minutes of knitting and icing

The world celebrated Tata Madiba’s ninety-fourth birthday yesterday and we got stuck into knitting scarves and icing biscuits at Yuppiechef HQ, which we planned to give to some little people in need of warmth and a smile.

It has been a while since some of us got down to business with needles and wool, and laughter rang and roared around the test kitchen as we gathered to cast on in pink and white.

Mandy organised strawberries and chocolate crunchies to keep us going and we knitted and nattered in some welcome winter sunshine.

After a bit of knitting the inner children of Yuppiechef went wild with sprinkles, Smarties and icing on Boudoirs and Maries to make racing cars, smiling faces and explosions of sugar goodness. And of course, some PB&J sandwiches for good measure.

The decision of who to give everything to was easy. One of the Yuppiechef warehouse guys, Clarance, runs a safe house for eight kids in his home in West Lake and we popped in to say hello and deliver the snacks.

Pictured above are Clarance and his wife with Owen, Ashton, Migael, Farouk, Jason, Joe-Dean, Simone and Justin. What a team, and when we got in this morning we were bowled over by some beautiful thank you cards.

The pink Yuppiechef monkey is our new favourite mascot. The saying about what one gets back from giving, is so true. Enkosi, Tata.
