Cookware

Since the discovery of the flame, man has made many a smart plan to get food roasted, stewed and boiled. Cookware has ancient roots and seaside dwellers are reported to have used turtle shells and large mollusks. Bamboo tubes sealed at the end with clay were popular in Asia while other people got to work carving large stone bowls that were embedded into fireside hearths as early as 7000 BC. Thankfully, things have changed.

The development of pottery was a giant leap, but as they were not fireproof limited heat levels to a minimum. The real change came with the advance of bronze and iron metalwork that for the first time made fireproof cookware a reality.

By the 17th century, it was common for Western kitchens to have a selection of helpful cookware including skillets, baking tins and pots made mostly from iron and brass. The 19th and 20th centuries and industrial revolution popularised metals like as steel, stainless steel and aluminium which became the favourites for cookware production.

Cookware can be loosely divided into casseroles and cocottesfrying pans and griddles, saucepans, steamers and the helpful accessories that go with them.

Cookware sets have also become very popular, with many people opting for matching collections of cookware from their favourite brand.

Whatever your needs and desires in the cookware department, we hope you will find a trusty vessel to help you on your way to kitchen greatness.
